The sci-fi action set-pieces in this post-apocalyptic universe are jaw-dropping. What happened to the story-telling? This should have been an epic journey with tortured characterization for John Conner, Kyle Reese and the Sam Worthington's character. Sam's character has a few primal screams to highlight the tragedy of his character and that's it. How John Conner got so little screen time baffles the mind. Even worse the Kyle Reese character hangs around briefly in the background. SALVATION is a huge improvement from T3 but fails to capture the addictive mythology of the first 2 movies directed by James Cameron. This franchise is getting as bad as those PLANET OF THE APES sequels from the 60's and 70's. SALVATION needed a shock ending and it didn't deliver! I would have finished SALVATION by sending KYLE REESE back in time to where the original TERMINATOR movie started, and begin the cycle all over again, going in different directions to continue this franchise.

Not a very good Terminator movie @ all, the first two were excellent, 3rd not bad! The mini-series was pretty good too! Maybe Christian Bale ruined it?

This was by far the best terminator movie made. They could have added arnold saying i'll be back but they didn't and I respect that.

I thought this movie was great. The graphics were unbelievable and the plot was good. I will always be a fan of the terminators.

A bit disappointing. A good movie overall, great special effects, decent story but there was just no soul. The connection between the actors and the audience was just not there. The ending really felt like a cop-out. But there's definitely potential there...

On its own, this may have been a good movie. But when you are following great movies like Terminator and T2, this was a poor sequel. No reason to really care about the characters. A rental at best.

Before seeing this movie, I thought to myself "What is Terminator without Arnold? ". And I was right, Terminator is passed its time, Arnold cannot be replaced, therefore the plot cannot be fully completed.

I would like to re-rate this movie. The first time I think I gave it a 9 or something, but after a few months to think about it, it turns out it was only a 7. Obsessive-compulsive, I know.

You know what, I liked this movie. It's got robots, guns, and some old kick back to earlier movies. The "you could be mine" bit, classic! It is what it is, a sci-fi movie with soldiers and robots, always a good combo.

When I saw the first Terminator back in 1984 at the Theater, I thought "this was one of the best SciFi movies ever". However, I did not enjoy Salvation. The special effects are definitely more advanced, but we get 2 hours of them and not a lot more. The story is interesting, but the movie moves along almost too fast and doesn't explore possibilities within the overall plot. I don't recommend this movie, unless you have nothing better to do.

Disappointing. Worst Terminator movie of the lot. There were a couple okay action scenes but the story could have used some major refinement. There is absolutely no sense of surprise with respect to Sam Worthington's character. Can't really understand why Christian Bale got so intense on the movie set, his role was minimal - maybe he got upset because he realized he was filming a turkey. The special effects for a surprise cameo near the end looked fake. The ending was just ridiculous. I should have spent two hours of my life rewatching the first or second Terminator movie.

I have seen all of the Terminator movies and I liked this one too. I am glad I went to see it on the big screen. I wonder what Arnold would think of this movie. I am thinking he'd like it too as he can watch it from a comfortable chair and not have to go over so many lines. Mind you," I'll be back" is not hard to remember.

Not as good as T1 or T2 but it's different. Has anyone noticed the number of prequels that have come out since Star wars? Star trek, Terminator salvation, Batman begins, etc...

Just my 2 cents, I know this movie is over but hey, just saw it. Good, the only fault here is the focus of the story. This movie was made for and around Samuel Worthington character (Marcus) We see this movie through his eyes not the suppose hero John Connor. Marcus character was very well written indeed, from the beggining to end he's there. I there so much that he take the place of the hero. He also become endearing , his quest to take back his humanity is. Bale's character is left to play second in command second fiddle, and ultimatly nobody cares really about him, I didn't, and I should have. But not once this character was given a chance to shine. Not in battle, not in whits, not in any scene. Even young Anthon ( Reese) has a better aura and his time on the screen is not much shorter than Bale's. So what was the writters thinking. The story structures are sound, just the parts got mixed up between the star of the movie and the winning star of the movie. Bales job, hein... with a better part and some good character development it couls of worked. By the way when nuclear explosions accurs, all electronic device is fried and don't work anymore, and everything is dead for a few kilometers around, And radiation covers hundreds of miles and kill thing months after they're expose. For those reasons this movie almost qualify as a cartoon, like batman and spiderman. We're not stupid don't treat us like we are.

Very mediocre. The acting sucks, the story is all over the place, and the special effects are muddled by soot and grime and mud. As an action film it's good but as a Terminator film it fails worse than T3.

I agree with most reviews: Good movie overall, yes it could have been better in some spots but I think this movie revitalizes the series. We go in a new direction and it's interesting to watch. The Terminators truely frightened me this time, like watching the zombies in 28 Days Later. I thought I was going to be disappointed and was not. I am impressed overall. I should give this film and 8.

Believe it or not, this movie's not a man's movie at all, it's a chick flick in disguise! Hear me out: there are only two notable woman characters in the film, both attractive, but neither of them scantily-clad or drop dead gorgeous, one of which is pregnant and married to the main character played by Bale. The two lead men, on the other hand, besides being great eye candy, play sensitive men toward the women and warm the female viewer's heart. I was pleasantly surprised. I came to the conclusion that without Bale and the extremely attractive newcomer, Worthington (who very nearly steals the show), this would have been vaguely boring; just another guy flick with explosions and futuristic setting. This is no man's man movie with Jean-Claude V. D. or Silvester Stalone (unattractive, old men) playing the uber-manly leads. Go see it, girls.

Good movie overall, yes it could have been better in some spots but I think this movie revitalizes the series. We go in a new direction and it's interesting to watch. I hope the door is open for more, McG did a pretty good job directing and if he does another Terminator flick I'm sure it will be a great movie not just a good one. If your thinking of seeing Transfomers, I would say see Terminator instead, Terminator is worth the money where Transformers is only worth a rental.

One of those movies where the trailer is far better than the film. I should have waited for the DVD. Christian Bale has become a boring actor, more famous for his on set rant than anything he manages in this movie. Based on what went up on screen, he should find the guy he obliterated on set and apologize. If it was me, I wouldn't have moved the light I would have turned it off altogether. It would have been a far better movie...

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] What a disappointment... Everything was poor (Yes, even the action scenes, including the bike pursuit, terminator arms under the water - every action scenes from the amazing trailer #3).. This Terminator serie is so much different from the previous ones and the characters (Barnes, Kate, Blair) were so underdeveloped that there was no point putting them in the movie (Marcus could've perhaps saved himself w/out the aid of Blair, rendering Barnes also useless, Kate did nothing in the movie and became pretty weak) Terminator WAS famous because of the storyline and the strong background behind the scenes. Personally, I think this new terminator ruined everything. John Connor was totally lost in the movie and the only good and developed character was Marcus Wright (this was very brilliant - a terminator/human more human than machine, and recalling that Arnie was more machine than human) Oh yeah Arnie..., the favorite character of almost all T fans, became a typical terminator (here goes my memories and my positive image of him...) Like, how about Arnie's the one becoming half human, half terminator? XD I'd rather not see Arnie in this terminator serie if all he does is being a machine. Anyhow, I'm giving this a 6 after all this simply because I USED TO really like terminators.

Not a bad "killer robot" movie but seemed to be missing the "Terminator" essence. Despite Arnie's appearance. Lots of action and things going 'boom' and it was entertaining, but the plot was not terribly engrossing.

Apart from a few decent action sequences, this continuation of the Terminator franchise is pretty weak. Non-sensical with laughable acting in some places. What is Bonham-Carter doing in this? A failed attempt at a great portion of the Terminator storyline. Shame.

Personally, I liked this Terminator less than the 3 previous ones. In fact, if you loved the first 3, you may not even like Salvation at all. It's pure action/fighting. Basically like a military film using Terminator as the setting.

Let's get right down to it: the most interesting thing to come out of the latest, and hopefully last, installment of the once-proud franchise was the remix of Christian Bale's infamous rant. The flimsy script depends solely on coincidence and the need to tie things neatly together to drive home that, yes, this IS just a remake of the [...] Matrix 3.
