I watched this movie in 2009 in the midst of Dick Cheney's ongoing television appearances defending his administration's interrogation techniques etc. The movie brought the issue into the clear light of day. It is definitely a movie worth seeing but not if you're look for a good time.

A little slow at times, but a good movie overall. Some of the actors were brilliant, some sleepwalked through the movie. Worth renting for sure.

Unfortunately for this movie... I've already seen the likes of Traffic, Babylon, Lions for Lambs... etc... etc. Politics and warfare mixed with family drama sells movie tickets. The formula seems to work more or less and people are mildly entertained at best. Everytime a new movie with the same theme hits the BIG screen, I am tempted to watch it. The problem lies in the fact that it is pretty much always the same theme with a slighty different take so I'm rarely impressed anymore. Not a bad movie considering good casting and overall pace... but not at all original.

It's a good movie, but I was very dissapointed in Reese W. I like the way the plot twists, it gives the movie bit of an edge. I liked how they're not afraid to show foreign US prison. We live in a very scary world. Make sure you don't give your cell # away to strangers... just in case. (You'll understand after seeing the movie.) ;-)

I liked the movie - it was a bit hard to watch some of the tortuous scenes, but all in all I thought it was a good film.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Very good story. The acting is excellent. Makes you think if what they show in this movie could be happening in real life. The only thing I didn't like is when his wife goes to the senator's building, she enters the building without any problems and without going through any security, I do not believe you could get close to people very high up in the government like she did. This is the only part not credible for me.

This is happening. Rendition leads to torture. Start objecting to the harbingers of a police state. Question authority and redeem your individuality before you lose it.

It was excellent: The acting, the story, the messages, everything. It hit very close to home. At a few points it was a bit confusing, but it tied in nicely at the end with a twist. Worth watching, even if you're not into political movies (I'm not!)

The movie was engaging without being too preachy, all of the cast do a wonderful job but overall it lacked something that would have made it a great movie.

I had no idea going in, but what a nice surprise. It's an excellent movie, perhaps the best of the year. It was poignant, touching, politically pertinent and real when one looks at the life of Maher Arar, for example. Everyone should see this movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] A movie with a great story to tell. Reese gave an exceptional performance (as usual) The torture scenes were nasty to watch though. Even if the prisoner is innocent, he would never be the same after being tortured like the prisoner was tortured in this movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Great movie. Scary to think that it can actually happen to someone. Although sometimes difficult to watch because of the torture scenes, I would recommend this movie. Great performance by Reese.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Rendition is a very smart, sophisticated and devastating condemnation of the United States' policy of extraordinary rendition. The film does not talk down to the audience, trusting viewers to make up their own minds after both sides of the argument are passionately and intelligently presented. It also stands up as an engaging work of entertainment, successfully interweaving several elaborate stories that culminate in a surprising conclusion. The scenes of torture are graphic and horrific. The buildup of suspense is palpable. Meryl Streep is steely sharp in her representation of the side that supports rendition as a necessary anti-terrorist technique. She convincingly blends a genuine belief in her cause with a smug, arrogant self-righteousness. Along with Streep, the cast is universally strong. When any of the leads are onscreen, you can't take your eyes off them.

Very fine film. Strong direction, superb performances, interesting narrative structure. The evening I saw it, the audience sat in total silence until the end, then applauded. Much better than most recent films.

Very topical. The conclusion as Jake realizes in the movie - torture will produce results but they may be meaningless if you have the wrong person. Exciting movie, strong performances by some big names - well worth seeing. Also uplifting in the end - there is a hero.

Good movie and acting and scenery;some of the scenes were quite violent; but it portrays a lot of reality and it shows that there can be some people with principles too.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This is a good action movie on an important subject. It brings to life many dull but important questions, such as: How can you ever trust intelligence acquired during torture? The movie has some annoying narrative vehicles, such as the terrorist clipbook, supposedly to simplify the storytelling, but for me it just made the story feel less real. Overall its well worth seeing though.

Very timely for us Canadians and totally believable. That we can do things like this to each other only shows the futility of war. A bit lagging at times and confusing with Jake's character not always in with the action. Over all a nice night out.

Excellent movie! I give it this high a score to help counter-balance the ridiculously low scores that a few a given it. The subject matter is intense and very well put together. I have to say that I was quite angry at the end, as the acceptance of Rendition is sickening and the power that the US government has to just do what they will is enough to make one angry and very frustrated.

Really enjoyed this movie, so did my 14 and 15 year old kids. I grew up watching war movies and saw the torture used at that time. This was an eye opener for them to see what can happen in today's world.

I'm not sure why this movie isn't doing any better at the box office. Could be the subject matter. Seems like a lot of the US War-themed movies are not fairing that well this Fall (The Kingdom, In the Valley of Elah, and now Rendition) I really liked this movie, because I think it's important to show this aspect of the "war on terror". The pace was a little slow and uneven, but the acting was very good, and the score is haunting and quite à propos. I appreciate the fact that they didn't go overboard on the torture scenes. Audiences are smart enough to know that more went on that what is shown. We don't need the gory visuals. Reese Witherspoon delivers a good performance. It's not a "Walk the Line" caliber performance, but it is a good one nonetheless. Peter Sarsgaard delivers a great supporting performance, as does Alan Arkin. And Meryl Streep is easy to despise, so she did her job very well too! Jake Gyllenhall played an excellent "withdrawn and struggling" newcomer. His body language spoke more to his characters state of mind than his actual dialogue. The ending was a little disappointing, as were some of the storyline developments. I just couldn't help but think that some of the events just would not have occurred that way. But it is a good movie, and deserves a solid 7/10 rating in my book.

The portrayal of Arab life/scenery, etc. is excellent. From living in the Middle East, I found this very believable in all respects. Reese Witherspoon does well not to overact the anxious wife.

Wow, it is rare to see this kind of "cine-club" movies... Very powerful, structured, clearly true and objective. Beautiful pictures and excellent acting. I think it is important to be aware of the historical and political context of the story to appreciate as much as I did this unique movie... The cultural dichotomy and nuances in believes are also well illustrated in the movie... A true masterpiece!!!

This is one of the best movie I have seen. It shows the reality and handles the current subject very well. We live in a fast pace modern society and needs to clarify to people right away and not wait till its history. It creates awareness among all the society and makes them think.

Actually a really clever engrossing movie. Don't go see it if you're not going to pay attention, its money wasted. Also don't go see it if you are looking for an easy predictable story or aren't into thinker dramas. Jake gylenhal doesn't pull this type of character off very well, but he's alright...

At the end of the movie you don't leave immediately... you just want to stay silent for a while... because, even though the film is fiction... you know damn well that events such as the one portrayed in the film are currently happening... Very sad but true... One has to wonder what goes on in the heart (not the head) of current so call world leaders. Oh well, let's keep on denouncing these events through books, films, documentaries...

Good movie based on real events. Good to see a situation from different angles, tho it could have been explored a little better , had we had more time, from the perspective of one group. Some actors are excellent, while others are above average.

Stunning! The most intelligent and comprehensive movie about terrorism, from both the american and muslim points of view. All the american actor, Streep, Sasgaard, Gyllenhall, Arkin... are their usual excellent selves, but the arab actors really steal the show with intense and credible performances. Directing and editing are close to perfect, with a surprise twist you never see coming. In short, for a succinct, balanced and accurate depiction of the war on terrorism from both sides of the fence, this movie is the one to see.

I am only giving it this high of a rating to balance out some of the ridiculously low ones people have given it. It should be a 9 at least. Edgy subject matter, great acting for the most part, nicely shot with great camera work and editing, and a nice twist. Definitely worth 10 bucks and probably more.

The actors are very convincing, the story is well written and the location selection and shooting are excellent. Obviously you need subtitling in oder to maintain the movie's credibility when in a different country, with local players. But what really impressed me was the originality of the film cutting and the way the story is laid out.

A very complex issue to make a 2-hour movie about. I suppose the issue can't help but be oversimplified. I think the biggest problem is that it's too early to make a movie about this. This is happening right now and history hasn't had a chance to judge the actions of the United States in their 'war' on terror. Road to Guantanomo was better because it was less judgmental and more factual (well, obviously because one is a drama and the other a docudrama but still...) So there's the big problem with this movie: it's a fictional drama about something that is currently going on. I think it's too early to make movies about this. Oh, and this is the most dial-in performance from Meryl Streep I have ever seen. In fact, all the main cast is terrible. The supporting actors (most notably, the Egyptians) are all great, but the American actors and actresses really drop the ball.
