Amazing move. You will be touched and you will feel the reality. I have fallen in love in 2 main characters.

I see a lot of people are reminded of Charles Bronson movies. To be honest, this movie felt more like a Stallone movie, character goes around killing the most cartoon villains imaginable and uttering stupid lines (I still can't believe what she said after shooting that one guy in the back); at least with Bronson, Stallone and even Eastwood's Dirty Harry flicks, they just go ahead and do their business without having to cry about it after, which is really what bugged me the most, the way this movie trys to have it both ways, stupid violence but I'm also supposed to feel sorry for her; sorry, I don't. Either do it or don't, I don't care, but don't give me a bunch of crap about I'm going to do it and then feel bad about it after. BTW, one other movie ripped off is the masterpiece that Foster was actually part of, Scorcese's "Taxi Driver". I guess she always wanted to play the DeNiro character - the scene in the convenience store is almost a total rip off.

Essentially rip off verion of Death Wish except with a female lead. One of the worst movies of the year with a weak story line and poor direction. Jodie's weakest performance yet.

Here's a movie that initially had me pumped after seeing the first trailer, but subsequent viewings left me feeling as if I had basically seen the entire storyline. After the utter disappointment of Flight Plan, and even with the rave reviews Jodie Foster's performance were garnering her, I decided to stay away from this one. Well, I was wrong. This is an excellent movie, and really is a must see for several reasons. First of all, yes, Jodie Foster delivers a stellar performance, a real solid and touching portrayal of a woman whose life was dealt a major blow. I have not seen every Lead Actress Oscar nominated movie, but I cannot for the life of me believe that there were 5 better performances than this one last year. I simply cannot. Terrence Howard also delivers a performance worthy of recognition. His portrayal is convincing and his mastery of his emotions is really impressive in certain key scenes shared with Foster, making his performance that much more amazing. Next, the solid and thought-provoking screenplay often makes us ponder what we would do in that situation. It truly is a master's touch when a story can have you root for vigilanteism at the same time as seriously question whether it truly is right or wrong to carry out one's own brand of justice. And finally, the amazing Neil Jordan directed this masterfully, with the camera shots and angles playing such a big part in the actual storytelling than the dialogue does. A true sign of a gifted and natural director. If you are hesitating on seeing this movie, take a chance. You will be pleasantly surprised, as the trailer, albeit revealing the main plot, only really touches the surface of this amazing story. 9/10 without hesitation!

At the beginning of the film I was a little dismayed by the juxtaposing of imagery of violence and sensuality. As the story unfolds I found there was so much more to this story and was riveted. The chemistry between the two leads is strong, sexual and touching as they both wrestle with their own demons and code of ethics. The ending was predictable as hollywood endings always are... pretty good film for those that like dirty harry in the guise of a woman for a change.

Pretty boring. Movie would have benefited from having thirty minutes cut. There's nothing brave about Foster's character, it's just a simple revenge movie with a love story aspect. Deathwish and The Punisher do it better.

It was ok. I got a bit tired of the husky-breathy speech and the close-ups of Jodie Foster. The movie dragged on at times... It was ok. The detective stole every scene.

This works on so many levels. It reveals both the dichotomy of our cultures, as well as the human psyche, and how one could cross the line between right and wrong. We can relate to the senselessness of the first violent act perpetrated in this movie, and condone the last one, because we see ourselves mirrored in Erica's (Jodie Foster) persona. Just as Detective Sean Mercer (Terrence Howard) did. Kudos to both Jodie & Terrence for bringing that home to us.

This movie asks this very important question. If you decided to be judge and jury would you be able to live with your decisions afterwards. Jodie Foster is faced with this moral question in this brilliant movie by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Interview with the vampire) When her boyfriend (Naveem Andrews) dies after a brutal beating she feels the cops are not doing enough to find her boyfriend's killers and feeling unsafe herself she buys a gun and then starts on a vigilante killing spree until she befriends a cop (Terence Howard in a very good performance) and begins questionning herself about her right to be playing judge and jury. Jodie Foster and Terence Howard are very good actors who feed on each other so well that their scenes together are so powerfull and beautiful that it clashes with the rest of the movie which shows the brutal side of New York. This is a movie that will stay in your minds for a long time hopefully it will come Oscar Night and that Jodie Foster will get a nomination for Best Actress.

Jodie Foster was, as usual, very good. It was a "Death Wish" remake, which doesn't really matter. The scene in the park was almost overwhelming in its realism. It was a decent movie and worth seeing.

It was alright. Never boring but never demanding, a little violence, a little love, a hint of intrigue, and an interesting character, well-played by always talented Jodie Foster. Very easy to follow and with an okay ending. But this is the type of film I would deem forgettable. Considering the premise, this is surprising-- they could have made something really striking and powerful from this story...

This movie is an insult to your intelligence. The plot and the premise are ridiculous. I left the theater thinking that Jodie Foster must be embarrassed by this piece of garbage. It was all I could do to watch the whole thing. Save your money... there are better movies out there!

This is a remake of the movie 'Death Wish' with a woman (Jodie Foster) as the ordinary citizen turned vigilante in place of Charles Bronson. In this even and steady thriller, Jodie metes out her revenge against New York thugs after her fiance is beaten to death during a mugging.

As always Jodie Foster puts in a great performance. Terrence Howard is becoming one of my favorite actors. The movie was alot like "Death Wish" and I really hope they don't decide to make umpteen sequels to this one. I loved the movie and in the beginning I didn't want to go see it. I'm glad I did.

Great movie, one of the best actresses in the business. I'm talking about talent and beauty in one package. The movie was entertaining and at one point "shocking" in what you see. You hope to god that something like this doesn't happen to anyone in our everyday world but reality sets in and you know it could happen to anybody. The acting was great by all. I felt people like the movie and I think you should too. Go with an open mind and try to not predict the movie. We know that from the trailer. I hate the trailers today. They give you to much. Anyways go see it and better yet go as a couple and after the movie, something great will happen. Thats love and appreciation for your loved ones.

It would appear that the message of the movie is that vigilantism is wrong (which it is), yet Foster's character gets away without any incrimination at the end. The mixed messaging ruined the movie. Foster's performance was strong but couldn't save the movie.

Hmmm choosing a rating for this movie was hard. I found the beginning violent and very difficult to watch. For the most part it was kind of slow going. Too many close-ups of Jodie showing her age. Too many flashbacks. The bucket of popcorn and gallon of pop swooshing in my stomach from the roaming camera was a bit much. However, the ending was amazing. My heart was racing and I had a knot in my stomach watching Jodie pull together her revenge."Heav'n hath no rage like love to hatred turn'd, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorn'd"

I realize that my score is lower than the average, but it is because so little originality seems to be coming out of Hollywood these days. This is a remake of the 1974 movie "Death Wish" with Charles Bronson. The twist is that the hero is now a heroine, but most of the storyline and several of the scenes (the depanneur and the subway scenes)are taken directly from the first version. The acting is not bad and they did put a few new wrinkles in the story. I just prefer original imaginative scripts and storylines not remakes of old classics. Different strokes for different folks?

Excellent movie, although I will agree with others that the ending could have been done a little less predictably. Both my boyfriend and I thought it was excellent, but sad. If you've ever loved someone so much that it hurt, even on good days, you'll understand this movie.

Admittedly, a stellar performance from Jodie Foster and Terrence Howard, with a ‘steady’ build-up (a few plot points and exigencies requiring some suspension of belief) But ultimately, what ruins the movie is its ending, collapsing both Detective Mercer’s ostensible scruples and the movie’s overall commentary, if there ever was one to begin with.

This movie was good. Once again Jodie Foster comes back with a vengeance as the " Warrior" of New York. My only problem with this movie was the end. Terrence Howard was good and gave a good performance. The director gave us a sense of "this guy is a smart cop and can catch on pretty quick" UNTILL the final kill. Yes he thought about giving Erica his service revolver, but shooting the Scum Bag in the back of the head while face down was an insult. That shooting said: "your going down cop, and your shoulder will be a reminder of how stupid you are." The scene should have read like this:(this is not script format) Cop orders Scum Bag to rise to his feet. Cop then gives Erica his gun and tells her to shoot him now in the chest. (sure, a few times to be safe) Then... Erica can shoot the cop in the shoulder. Movie is now a 9.
