Excellent movie. The comic book was a must read, a great way to learn about the histoy of iran through a personal story, and stunning comic drawings. The film was a great adaptation to the screen! A must see.

Fantastic. This is one of those rare movies that evokes every emotion possible. It's clever, funny, sad, etc. etc etc... the soundtrack is pretty kickass too.

Nicely done animated movie. Of course, it had to insert a few propagandistic points that the reason for Iran's misfortunes was "The West"," U. S. A.", etc, and had nothing to do with Iran's national character: under the Shah, Iran was a dictatorial, torturing police state where people had no freedom. Since its liberation, this glorious nation has evolved into, um, a dictatorial, torturing police state where people have no freedom! Go figure.

Funny, tragic, whimsical, profound, this is the "must see" film of the year. The animation is superb -- haunting in its simplicity, very artistic, very provocative. It forced me to look inside myself and re-examine how I view the Iranian people -- from faceless "them" to real people with the same goals and aspirations to live in dignity and freedom as we do. If you're a bit of a softy, bring a hanky, but enjoy some good belly laughs along the way.

This movie is simply stunning. It moves like a poem, a beautifully crafted poem. The starkness and delicateness of the animation accentuates the emotions conveyed so hauntingly, they seem to vibrate within you as you watch the film and the characters and scenes resonate with you long after the film is over. There is no shade or line or sound or word or note out of place in the piece. It is worth so much more than your price of admission. Just go see it. Allez!

This movie is a rather boring personal story of a banal Iranian who believes her life of avoidance, failures and communist stupidity is of any value for the mankind. She has exploited the current political interest on Iran and the leftist propensity of the free-riders of our spoiled society to make some easy money and boost her ego with this movie. Regrettably, too many people have fallen into her trap.

Very hard for me to watch, although I was born after the revolution, I went back to Iran for the first time after 18 years and my heart broke when I saw what was going on there. I so desperately want a better Iran for all my family who are still there and all the people who want change to happen. This movie is sad, informative (for those who don't know much about the revolution, including myself), funny (I think it captures the sense of humour of Iranians perfectly), most of all inspiring. I would recommend this movie to anybody, I think it's truly a gift to be able to experience this film and all that it offers. (Everyday I hope for a better Iran.)

Outstanding!! Very innovative and effective animation. Extremely engaging autobiographical storyline. Destined to be a classic. (A knowledge of 1950's to 90's Iran is an asset) The ending was a touch too abrupt but no other criticism.

I enjoyed the film, but at the same time I was a little disappointed. No doubt the animation is similar to the style of the original material, but I found it not very interesting. I did find interesting the switch to colour in the airport scenes. I presume it symbolizes that the heroine couldn't be her real self except in transition between nations. But feel free to help me on that.

A true masterpiece, a realistic capturing of the moments. I lived and witnessed the revolution and the war in Iran, this is as close as you can get to what happened then.

I never thought an animated film could be so heartbreaking, poignant, powerful and true. With its unflinchingly honest glare at the world and the boldly political told from a deeply personal perspective, Persepolis has more in common with the neorealist movement than the average film in its genre. Visually inventive and spiced with a dry wit, it is original, enlightening, humanistic, irreverent and often surprising. Very highly recommended. Bring kleenex.
