[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Very bad plot, and bad acting. It was an insult to my inteligence. I had to walk out of the movie. The movie does not explain why or how this "blind" epidemic came about. The gov't leaves these helpless people to their own defences witn NO FOOD - how ridiculous. A husband cheats on his wife in the mids of this mayhem and the wife catches him and she decides that she's o.k. with that. The movie is utterly ridiculous!

At times, the scenes were disjoint. But what's really great about this movie is the reality that it portrays with respect to the reactions and social decline that follows chaos and the unknown. This movie keeps you thinking at the end and sends a message deeper than most movies of its class. Read the book first if you truly want to appreciate the underlying message of this brilliantly written work.

Great movie! Liked it just as much as the book. It is probably a little difficult to follow for those who haven't read the book.

I first learned about this film when I was working the Toronto Film Festival and judging by the reviews posted I believe a festival audience is more suited for it. When it came out in mainstream theaters and was marketed as a thriller it obviously attracted the wrong crowd. It's thought provoking and emotionally gripping. The acting IS good. The cinematography IS good and the directing IS good. To put glimpses of humour into such a bleak story and pull it off without throwing off the tone completely isn't easy. So if you really like FILM and not Hollywood crap then go see this. Otherwise go to the next theater over and see that silly Chihuahua movie and waste your brain on that number one box office hit (? What the heck's going on? )

Wow... a powerful and moving piece of drama. This is not in "Blockbuster" format... so if you are looking for a shoot 'em up, blow 'em up action flick, this isn't for you... but if you are looking for something that really makes you think about the the best and the worst human condition, I think this is one that will not disappoint. Understand that some of the "ugly" really is ugly... but you are sticking your head in the sand if you think that kind of thing wouldn't happen... Some people don't realize how fragile our society really is.

A masterpiece. Keeps you thinking... and wondering where continuous, extreme stresses will take people and what it will lead them to do. I only read the first chapter of the book and, well, got bored and dropped it. Gotta give the movie makers/actors huge credit. I was completely immersed and riveted by this film. Maybe now I'll try the book again.

How can this only have a 5.7 rating? Seeing things like that seriously makes me doubt the movie going population. This film was a masterpiece, beautiful visually and truly posed interesting questions for the viewer. I almost didn't see it because of the low rating, but this must be the greatest movie I've seen in 2008! I think the low rating must be because of the disturbing scenes in this movie and I would not recommend this as a feel good film.

Possible the worst movie I have ever seen. Why does Julian Moore pick such bad movies to be part of. The story is weak, the acting is awful, after 30mins I stop caring about the characters, a few people got up and walked out. Please do not go see this movie nor rent the DVD when it comes out, it's a stupid very stupid movie.

A very good movie. I've read the book long ago and went to see it wondering how such a difficult piece of literature could possibly translate into a film: the result was splendid. Compelling cinematography, solid acting. Not for everybody though. Those who rated it poorly are probably the same ones who cheer big hollywood blockbusters.

And as for people saying they dont understand why people are walking around naked and having sex, these are not people raised blind. These are people of all moral classes, suddenly unable to see. And honestly, if you had about three weeks of clothes at max, with no way to clean them, you would probably end up nude too. No one sees you, it's not a concern.

I was disappointed with this movie primarily because Julianne Moore is an amazing actress and rarely does she choose her movies poorly. And to give her full credit, the character whom she portrays with much grace goes through a relavetory experience. However, while the basic premise of the movie was engaging, the storyline was over-drawn and many scenes could have been shortened, if not cut out altogether. And the final blow was the end... it was, well, no where in sight. Perhaps the director was blind to his own project's failures.

I think alot of people gave this a low rating because we really don't know what we would do in this situation. The acting was great and most likely what it would be like. Imagine!!!

Not for the faint of heart. Anybody who is interested in bold and unconventional filmmaking would appreciate this movie. You may not like it, but you will be glad to see it. Those who who walked out would have rather seen "Eagle Eye."

It was incredible! But you have to realise going in that this is NOT A THRILLER. The movie is not about the epidemic its about human nature, how evil we can be and how good we can be. I thought the movie was going to butcher Jose Saramago's book but it was so well executed!

Tis movie was really good. If you read the book you will like it for sure because it's exactly the same. Before you go see this movie just make sure that you know what it is about because it's not a big blockbuster, so if that's what you are looking for, don't go see it because you will hate it. The rating of this movie is really bad, but look at the other ratings of the people who gave a bad review, you will understand a lot in most of the case.

Very good movie. Very philosophical and it makes you think if you look at it critically and look at the big picture, not what it is that is right in front of you. Those that did not like it did not see it for what is was or the hidden message it was trying to convey. Very good illustration of humanity and the need for cohesion and group work. It highlights the idea that we are blind when we can see and can really see when we are blind... no prejudices or biases.

This movie wasn't that bad. I think you're all missing the message. It's referring to how the world is ungrateful and cruel, like most of these posts. It wasn't the greatest production but it wasn't a 1 out of 10. If your going to rate movies in an unrealistic over-exaggerated manner than why rate at all? P. S - that's a rhetorical question.

A thin plot line with far too much lacivious raw in-your-face brutality posing as a human morality lesson. The characters were so undeveloped that noone really cared what happened to them. One wished to be struck blind as a reprieve from viewing this trainwreck.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I don't understand why people defecate in the hallways, pee in the corners, walk naked and have sex everywhere just because they are blind. It's just disgusting. People would go to the toilet before being blind, why can't they still go in the toilet after they are blind. Who would leave their wives to get raped by other blind people for food? The one person who can see lets everything happen to the others. She even sees her husband have sex with another woman and it's like nothing happened. I felt like leaving because the movie was very slow. I stayed because I thought something interesting would happen. Finally nothing did. It would be nice to know what caused the blindness and why only one person was ok.

Good and intense emotional scenes but overall not a well thought out movie at all with a continuous senselessness that has you going why am I still sitting here? It drags you down to the point where horrid puns become funny and you latch onto any action offerd at all!!! All in all no good if you gotta pay for it and if your the sensitive type but an interesting take on humanity.

We were really expecting to be disappointed given the reviews it was garnering, especially worried the film had butchered such an amazing book. Turns out apparently most of the reviewers haven't read the book. They fault the movie on the fact that it wasn't a thriller (of course it wasn't!); it was too gruesome & horrific (the book was far FAR worse!); & that it wasn't about a blind epidemic (again, it wasn't!? ) If you've read the book, you'll probably come away as we have: Thinking it was an amazing film! Without giving anything away, if I were Jose Saramago, I'd be ecstatic the movie adhered so closely to the book & beautifully depicted nearly every word he had written. The cinematography was exquisite. It was extremely powerful & very moving. I blame the poor reviews on marketing. It was obviously marketed very, very poorly, showing at only the mainstream cinemas like a summer blockbuster or an October horror film. It is definitely the furthest thing from it. IT WAS MADE OF AWESOME!

This movie was a fascinating international production. Very Lord of the Flies-esque and a great critique of raw human nature in the face of total chaos. I don't know why people rated is so low, clearly they didn't sit through it all. If you like movies that are different and thought-provoking, then go see it, this isn't your typical hollywood bore.

I have never felt the need to write a review before I saw this movie. It was the worst movie I have ever seen. If I had not paid full price, I would have walked out. I suffered till the end, hoping it would improve, it never did. The plot is weak, the acting terrible, the story unbelievable. I don't recommend anyone see it-in theater or at home. It was a piece of garbage.

It was OK in some parts but silly in way too many. The premise was OK but I thought it could have been played out in a better manner. The movie moved too quickly toward the happy ending. That's the first movie I've ever seen anyone leave before the end. I didn't know it was Canadian. As soon as I saw that, my expectations lowered immediately; rightly so.

Unbelievable the attention paid to the rape scene by a lot of the disgruntled viewers. The human condition is one of exploits and fears. To think that a mass chaos and panic would not overwhelm and seriously affect the reasonability of man is dumb. THINK! I study film production and film theory at the University of York, film in its essence is supposed to provide a feeling of catharsis. To be so far removed and to feel disgust is exactly what this film tries and succeeds in doing. There is no doubt, the reflection of the degenrate human spirit is ill and alarming. Open your eyes! Too much fancy pants television and Harry Potter fantasy has led people to think they know what they're talking about. You don't.

I have never given a movie a 1 nor did I ever think I would have to. I have seen and see a lot of movies and I have never walked out of a movie before but Blindness brought me within a millimetre. I stayed but cringed the whole way through. It was like a modern day concentration camp and was really depressing. The ending was okay but the last scene made no sense. I do not recommend this movie. It was not informative just disgusting (unlike Schindler's List which was sad but informative) Do not see this movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Worst film ever seen. The 'joke' of counting raised hands of blind people was the most disgraceful, lame, repulsive, embarrassing and unfunny attempt since Stalin won the 1938 funniest-moustache competition.

A movie that defies all rules of ridiculousness. Every single scene was inexplicably unlogical. The premise of being blind would rule out all behaviour showed in this film, it made absolutely no sense at all. Soldiers shooting blind people and raping by a blind man with a gun. A movie that pretends to show human behaviour at its worst does indeed not need a plot, however, human behaviour should be at least plausible. This movie made me literally laugh and cry, two emotions that cannot be genuinely found in the film.

It's been a while since I've written a review, but for some reason I felt compelled to write one for this awful piece of garbage that they called a movie. Honestly, this is the very first movie I have ever walked out in the middle of. It was just flat out boring, terrible acting and was extremely disturbing and depressing. From what I read, they don't even explain what causes the blindness or how the main actress is immune... that is just lazy script writing. It seemed like it was trying to be artsy and poetic, but they just tried way too hard. And like the only transition they had was a white light (it gets really old pretty fast) Seriously, when I walked out, I felt violated. I don't know how this movie made it to theaters but I know you should not go see it.
