I had no idea what this film was about so I did not have any expectations. Anne Hathaway does a great job portraying a recovering addict. But thats about it. I felt like this was a sequel and no one told me about part 1. Felt like we came into everything and nothing was explained. Why was the wedding indian themed? What was with the extensive music enterage? Why the long reception? Why Why Why is all we kept asking! Not recommending to anyone. Sorry.

Great acting and interesting family history. But that jerky camera doesn't give the feel of a documentary, but a home movie. And who besides your close ones really wants to see a home movie? And geez, that music! It's like everybody was practising out of key. Just when I thought it couldn't get any more annoying, out comes a guy blowing into a whistle while dancing wildly to the beat of a drum. Give this one a miss.

Not terrible but could have been much better. Demme forgoes subtlety to hammer home ever possible point to reveal how incredibly dysfunctional this family is. He seems to revel in giving the viewer scenes that give us some hope for the family only to then finish the scene off with some deception or terrible heartbreak everytime. Demme chooses to crank up the melodrama but forgoes genuine character authenticity in the process. It leaves the viewer feeling like a distant observer of a train wreck. Interesting piece though not so entertaining.

Phoney characters, boring boring boring speeches! The setting was so contrived and pretentious with its obnoxious music and one-dimensional cast of U. N. type characters. I wanted to run away from this drawn-out party and I just didn't care about any of the people who were there. The camera work made me sick.

'Disfunction' is given entirely new meaning in this film! Anne Hathaway is outstanding as the self focused recovering addict, Kym... Anne's facial expressions and body language poignantly convey her desperate longing for her mother's affection and her sister's acceptance... as she quietly searches for self forgiveness and to let go of the tragic consequence of a responsibility given her by this same mother. I found the 'jerky' camera work not only distracting but serving no purpose to the movie's message... which I still ponder considering hope was, and will remain elusive... Anne Hathaway's performance notwithstanding, this movie was a 'downer'.

This movie is 30 minutes too long, and the half-hour is as torturous and boring as a real-life distant cousin's wedding: no action, just a feeling of being crammed with a whole bunch of strangers waiting for something to happen, but to no avail. On the plus side, at least we know Anne Hathaway can actually act in a serious role, but that's certainly not enough to justify the agonizing plot and the price of the tickets. If you must see it, wait for the video.

Another long-waited and great original film. It's a beautiful, emotional and real drama, just like the ordinary life itself. It moves you. Highly recommended for people who fights, cries, hates, forgives, laughs and loves!

Uneven -- Anne Hathaway had excellent moments as the tragic addict in recovery bearing the projections of a dysfunctional family system. The intense conflict with her sister and mother is well done; Debra Winger is explosive as the mother in denial forced to confront her negligence. The wedding itself was fairly irksome, so much multi-culturalism that it brimmed with saccarine bonhommie. The hand-held camera was a constant distraction. Hathaway will be on the list for Best Actress, as she should be. Her startling performance significantly broadens her screen persona.

What a downer! My two friends went to sleep. Why do we need a movie about another dysfunctional American family? And what was it with the violins? Great disappointment.

It's like going to a wedding where you don't really know anyone and you sit next to a drunk relative who tells you about the skeletons in the family's closet. A few good laughs and certainly some sad, poignant moments. A good video movie. I'd recommend Victoria Christina over this one.

Actually this is a great film, but it turned out to be my worst movie going experience. Don't go if you are at all susceptible to motion sickness, or at least go armed with Gravol. I was not alone to feel nauseous because the POV camera swung, sometimes violently, in all directions with hardly a steady shot in the whole film.

To be perfectly honest, I'm somewhat disappointed. Nothing's wrong with Demme's movie, but nothing steps out either, despite a convincing performance from Hathaway and the rest of the cast. The wedding reception scene is way too long...

I have to admit, I was not sure about this movie until about a half hour in. The shaky camera movements were distracting at first, but once you get used to that, it does provide a somewhat more intimate view into the characters. The performances were outstanding - especially Rosemarie DeWitt (who plays Rachel), Anne Hathaway and, of course, Debra Winger. This movie put my heart through the rinse cycle - I was surprised to find myself choking back tears and wanting to hug every member of the cast. A truly beautiful and moving experience.

If you like to watch women yelling and screaming and basically acting like your crazy ex girlfriend on steroids then watch this movie. The scenes are drawn out and boring and the only coll part is when someone sings Neil Young. Man that guys got some great lyrics!

I loved this movie! The filming style made me feel as if I were a guest at the wedding. I truly hope that the Academy remembers Anne Hathaway's performance when it's time for the Oscar nominations. My only critique: who decided to call this a comedy?

Anne Hathaway's performance was very good, but, it was like being at a real wedding for someone you don't really like that much. It was tedious and the violin music was irritating. Everyone was so angry and bitter. I would hate this group of people to be my family. I thought this was going to be a comedy and there was not even a chuckle in it. Rachel was horrible to her sister. This is a boring miss.

The acting is excellent. But you should only watch this if you like seeing dysfunctional WASPs having nervous breakdowns. Don't need to pay $13 for this, just go to any Thanksgiving dinner in suburbia.

Although the scenes Anne Hathaway were in, were really good, the movie was way too long and boring. The actors appeared to be whining a lot and I felt like none of them were real. There were scenes that were so long I wanted to leave the theatre. It was nice to see Anne Hathaway play a different kind of role, but I would love to see her in something better next time. Oh, and the constant violin playing in the background annoyed me so much by the end that I longed for some peace and quiet.

Great film! This isn’t a clean, slick Hollywood movie, but it’s real, and it’s original, and it’s heartbreaking. Beautiful! It made me cry, and it made me laugh.
