First, let me state that I and my sons LOVE the original Star Wars films. And we really enjoyed the animated Clone Wars series that is now available on two DVDs. If this movie had been up to par with either of the above mentioned, we would have really enjoyed it. As it stands, this new film is, I'm sad to say, nearly completely horrible. The animation is not bad. Not great, but not bad. The voice acting was well done. Production values are good. The writing, however, is just mind-numbingly disasterous. The plot is weak. We're reminded more times than I can remember how vital it is that the Jedi win the favour of Jabba the Hutt. (As if we could somehow have lost track of this basic plot line, it's repeated for us... again, and again.) And then we meet Anakin's new Padewan. A girl that uses nicknames like 'Sky Guy', and 'R-Twoey'. *shudder* For some odd reason, Anakin's character keeps changing the way he addresses his new sidekick, going from real name to nickname in the same breath. And not just once... it started happening so often that I began to count. The plot is so uninspired that my sons were literally bored by the end. This was the first time I've even had my son turn to me at the end of a Star Wars film and say "Wow... that kind of sucked." Needless to say, this is one DVD that will not be joining my library. I don't know where George Lucas was when the script for this thing came around for approval. I'm going to guess 'on vacation'. Seriously. Next time, gang, give it back to the team that originally wrote the Clone Wars animated series. That was MILES above this lame, sad little offering.
