Spike's intention was to depict a plot with black GI soldiers as the main focus in a Hollywood movie. The historical aspect IS that black GIs faced discrimination -how can he not put that in the movie? I suggest you stick with watching happy-war glory movies like 'Kelly's Heroe's' if you don't like watching movies with some sad factual accuracies.
